Mizoram government is making preparations to repatriate 3,800 to 4,000 Bru families lodged in the six relief camps in neighbouring Tripura, an official statement said here today.
Detailed preparations for the resumption of the repatriation were discussed today in a meeting of the District Core Committee on Bru repatriation, chaired by the Mizoram-Tripura-Bangladesh border Mamit District deputy commissioner K Lalthawmmawia, it said.
The repatriation was proposed to be completed within eight days, the statement said, adding that two facilitation centres at Zomuantlang and Kanhmun would be established where the repatriated Brus would be received by the officials.
It was decided that the each repatriated Bru family would be given family ration card and 20 kg of rice at the facilitation centres.
While around 2,000 families have to be resettled inside Hachhek assembly constituency, only 875 plots of land have been identified so far prompting the district administration to hold further consultations with the village authorities within the constituency.
Meanwhile, joint secretary of the state Home department Lalbiakzama told PTI that he would go to Tripura to meet the officials there on the repatriation issue on Thursday.
Lalbiakzama said that the transportation problem being anticipated by the Brus, willing to return to Mizoram would be deliberated with the Tripura officials.
