Primary to higher secondary schools in Mizoram would begin classes at 8 am from the next academic session beginning in April.
The decision was taken in a meeting of the council of ministers chaired by the Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla last evening.
Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) or Mizo Students Federation welcomed the decision while Mizo Students Union (MSU) opposed it on the ground that it would be too early for young students and would disturb the daily activities of not only students but also the whole society.
The MZP expressed happiness over the decision saying that the people of Mizoram would wake up early and help avail daylight savings.
