Mizoram government's Health department would soon commence screening of symptoms of suspected acute encephalitis, state hospital and medical education director Dr K Lalbiakzuala said today.
Lalbiakzuala told PTI that the screening would be conducted in view of the reported prevalence of Japanese Encephalitis in neighbouring Manipur.
All the hospitals and clinics would be alerted and asked to report any suspected case of Japanese Encephalitis, he said.
The virus causing Japanese encephalitis is transmitted by mosquitoes belonging to the Culex tritaeniorhynchus and Culex vishnui groups.
He said that the Japanese Encephalitis is propagated by a mosquito specie called Culex.
However, not a single case of the Japanese Encephalitis has been diagnosed in the state till date, he said.
