Modi allowing BJP leaders to indulge in polarisation: Ramesh

Congress leader and former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh today accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of playing a "double game" by allowing his party leaders to indulge in polarisation while he himself spoke the language of governance.
"Modi is playing a dangerous double game...He wants to appear as champion of good governance, but he will allow others to do the communal batting for him," the Congress leader alleged.
"The strategy of Modi is very clear. Modi speaks the language of governance, but he has enough people who speak the language of polarisation. They have adopted language of polarisation (on his behalf)," Ramesh charged.

Though riots may not have taken place on large scale during the last one year of the Modi government, polarisation is happening in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra and UP, he told reporters here.
On the demand for special status to Andhra Pradesh, Ramesh accused the Modi government of betraying the people of the state.
"It is a gross betrayal. The commitments made as part of AP Reorganisation Act are yet to be implemented, although the BJP was very much party to the legislation that was passed by the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha," he said.

He said the Modi government has not fulifilled the promise made by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in February 2014 on granting special status to AP.

Eleven states in the country have special category status and Andhra Pradesh was to become the 12th state. It has not happened in last one year. Inspite of TDP and BJP being allies in the state as well as allies at the Centre, he said.
"The Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act also promised investments both for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, but it has also not been fulfilled. Modi has not woken up to the promises made to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Modi manages government by headlines not by deadlines," he said.
On reports that Congress MP from Nalgonda in Telangana, Gutta Sukhender Reddy, writing a letter to the Centre opposing special status to AP, Ramesh said, "My view is he should not have written that letter. We disassociate ourselves on the content of the letter. There is no compromise, the entire Congress party stands committed to the special category status to Andhra Pradesh.
