Modi asks his ministers to reach out to people

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today asked his Council of Ministers to reach out to people to create awareness among them about the schemes and initiatives launched by his government in the last two years through 'Sampark and Samvaad' (contact and communication).
In the over three-hour meeting of the Council of Ministers chaired by him, Modi asked every Minister be aware of the initiatives being taken in various departments of the government and visit at least 200 places each after Budget session of Parliament to tell people about these measures.
The Prime Minister's directive comes ahead of the government completing two years next month.

Apart from communication, Modi's stress was also on ensuring that the benefits of the schemes reached the grassroots level.
Various infrastructure-related ministries like coal and power, railway, surface transport and shipping, petroleum and renewable energy made presentations of the work done by them in last two years.
The meeting also reviewed all the decisions taken by the Union Cabinet in last two years and the ministers were briefed about the idea behind them and the impact they had.

The Prime Minister was keen that all ministers should be aware of what is happening in the government. He told them that the impact of whatever has been done by the government on the development front will be visible soon, a minister who was present in the meeting said.

Modi told the Council of Ministers that his government was doing good work in a transparent and honest manner and had left the previous UPA government far behind, the minister said.
Modi asserted government has been moving fast on its development agenda in every sphere, "beating" the performance of the previous government, he said.
The Prime Minister was keen that while meeting the target of constructing 18 km of national higway per day, there should be no compromise on quality, sources said.
Modi, while insisting on quality of workmanship said poor road engineering should not be a cause of accidents.

Taking note of Parliament passing the Waterways Bill earlier this month, Modi said that the Shipping Ministry under Nitin Gadkari should now ensure fast implementation of the project so waterways could becomme another mode of transport of goods.
The Prime Minister also emphasized on the need for accelerating the rural electrification programme.
The meeting of the Council of Ministers happened a day after the Prime Minister reviewed the progress of rural development schemes on Monday.
In yesterday's meeting, he had called for putting in place an effective mechanism for stringent quality control in laying of roads under PM's Gramin Sadak Yojana and due monitoring of loans being given to self-help groups under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana (DAY).
