Prime Minister Narendra Modi will tomorrow hand over the reinstatement certificate of Indian barrister and nationalist leader Shyamji Krishna Verma to Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel at a function in Bhuj, officials said today.
This certificate was presented to Modi during his UK visit last month.
With this certificate, Verma, who was disbarred from one of Britain's leading law society for advocating independence for India over a century ago, has been posthumously reinstated to the Bar.
Now, this certificate will be kept in 'Kranti Tirth', a memorial of Verma built in the port town of Mandvi in Kutch, where he was born in 1857.
"Shyamji was the son of Mandvi's soil. Tomorrow, Modi will hand over this certificate to our (Gujarat) Chief Minister at a function inside the Air Force Station in Bhuj," Kutch district collector Mahendra Patel said.
"Later, this important document will be kept in display at 'Kranti Tirth' memorial in Mandvi," he said.
Verma, who is also known as 'Krantiguru', was born on October 4, 1857, in Mandvi. As a tribute to the freedom fighter, who died on March 30, 1930 in Geneva, the Kutch University has been named after him.
In 2010, Modi, when he was Gujarat CM, inaugurated the Kranti Tirth memorial. This memorial is a replica of 'India House' in north London.
India House was established by Verma as a base for Indian students studying in England. He was also the founder of the Indian Home Rule Society.
