MongoDB is open source software company and specialises in data base management--a segment which is dominated by IT majors SAP and Oracle.
The firm has come up with new technology of using a documents based approach to handle data management instead of traditional method in which data sets are analysed sequential basis.
"I'm thrilled by the opportunity to help create the next great database company," Ittycheria said.
Ittycheria was the co-founder and CEO of BladeLogic, one of the fastest growing enterprise software companies of the last decade.
After co-founding the business in 2001, he went on to take the company public in 2007, and then sold it to BMC Software in 2008 for approximately USD 900 million.
After the acquisition, Dev became President of the Enterprise Service Management business at BMC Software, a business with USD 1.4 billion in annual revenue and over 4,000 employees.
In recent past, some of major IT and Telecom companies have been choosing Indian origin people to lead their business.
To name some, US IT major Microsoft this year appointed Indian origin Satya Nadella as its CEO, Finnish telecom major Nokia appointed Rajeev Suri as CEO while imaging software leader Adobe has Shantanu Narayen as its CEO.
