The maximum temperature dropped sharply after showers lashed the region. Chandigarh, which received heavy showers earlier in the day, recorded a high of 29 degrees Celsius, six notches below the normal.
"The monsoon has advanced into some parts of Punjab and remaining parts of Haryana, including Chandigarh," Chandigarh's MeT Department Director, Surinder Paul, said.
In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a high of 30.5 degrees Celsius, five notches below the normal, after receiving a heavy downpour of 153 mm.
Patiala registered a high of 29.6 degrees Celsius, five degrees below the normal, after receiving light showers.
Karnal in Haryana recorded a maximum temperature of 28.2 degrees Celsius, down by five notches, after being lashed by showers.
Ambala, which received heavy rains, recorded a high of 27.6 degrees Celsius. Hisar recorded a high of 35 degrees Celsius, down by two notches.
Among other places in Haryana, Yamunanagar, Panipat, Jhajjar, Faridabad, Rewari, Rohtak, Panchkula, Bhiwani, Gurugram and Kurukshetra also received rain.
