Giving a statistics of polling in 25 Parliamentary constituencies in four phases, Assistant CEO Amitjyoti Bhattacharya said at the end of four phases of LS polls in 25 seats, 82.86 per cent female voters have exercised their franchise, against 82.75 per cent by male voters.
This trend was witnessed first in the 2011 Assembly elections, in which turnout of women voters was 84.53 per cent and male voters was 84.39 per cent.
Turnout in Jhargram seat has also gone up to 85.88 per cent from 77.29 in 2009, while in Alipurduars seat it has gone up to 83.21 per cent from 75.99 per cent, EC sources said.
In Midnapore seat too, turnout has gone up to 84.69 per cent from 82.43 per cent in 2009, while in Bankura it increased to 82.39 per cent from 77.69 per cent in 2009, Bhattacharya said.
Meanwhile, senior officials of the CEO's office and the EC today discussed on how to boost voters' turnout in the last and final phase of Lok Sabha elections on May 12.
