Mortal remains of two Indians brought back to Bengal from Iraq

The mortal remains of two Indians captured and killed in Iraq by terror group ISIS was brought to the NSC Bose International Airport here and were sent to Nadia district tonight enroute to their villages.

The bodies were brought in coffins in a special IAF aircraft and were accompanied by Minister of State for External Affairs V K Singh.

Respects were paid to the two men at the airport and the coffins were handed to Nadia deputy magistrate Partha Pratim Sarkar.

The two bodies belong to Khokon Sikdar and Samar Tikadar of Ilshamari vllage in Tehatta and Mahakhula village of Chapra in Nadia district respectively. They had gone to Iraq though agents.

The special aircraft with five cofiins then left for Patna.

West Bengal Minister Purnendu Basu represented the government at the aiport.

The plane carrying coffins of other bodies then left for Patna.

No family member of either men were present at the aiport owing to the distance from their village, district magistrate Sumit Gupta said at Krishnagar.

The bodies will be kept at Jwaharlal Nehru Memorial Hospital morgue at Kalyani for the night and the administration will hand over the bodies to the families tomorrow morning, he added.

Singh, who brought back the mortal remains of 38 Indians from Iraq in a special aircraft earlier in the day. On his arrival at Amritsar, he had said that the Iraq-based Martyrs Foundation had advised against opening of caskets because of the toxic content.
