A debt-ridden army jawan shot himself dead with his service rifle at an infantry school in Mhow cantonment, some 40 kms from here, police said today.
Sentry Gendalal (45) shot himself in the chest and died on the spot late last night, Mhow Police Sub Inspector Vikas Sharma said.
Sharma said that Gendalal hailed from adjoining Dewas district. In a note left behind, the sentry has mentioned about a Rs 8 lakh loan that he had taken from one Satish.
It appears that the armyman took the extreme step as he failed to pay back the loan, he said.
A case has been registered and we are investigating into the matter, the SI added.
