Following the Assembly elections in November last year, the BJP came to power for the third consecutive term in the state.
On the issue of electing a new Speaker, Chouhan told reporters in the Assembly's press room that the BJP has decided to project the name of Sitasharan Sharma as the new Speaker and expressed hope that he will be elected to the post unanimously.
He also said as per the tradition, the post of Deputy Speaker will go to the Opposition and that election too will be held unanimously.
Though the Assembly session commenced today, Congress was unable to decide on its Leader of Opposition because of lack of unanimity on any name, forcing the party leaders to leave the matter to the party high command.
