A Congress delegation today approached the Election Commission (EC) to shift out the Shivpuri district collector and superintendent of police and claimed that Mahendra Singh Yadav, its candidate for the Kolaras Assembly bypoll in Madhya Pradesh, was attacked.
The delegation comprising Jyotiraditya Scindia, the chief whip of the party in the Lok Sabha, Kantilal Bhuria and Kamal Nath, met Chief Election Commissioner O P Rawat and demanded that an FIR be registered in this regard.
Scindia claimed that Congress workers had apprehended a car belonging to Narendra Kushwaha, the Bhind MLA of the BJP. They had also approached the police in this regard, but instead of seizing the car and arresting Kushwaha, the police colluded with him, he alleged.
Scindia further claimed that the police lathi-charged the Congress workers, in which Yadav suffered injuries to one of his eyes.
"The police entered the residence of Yadav and started investigation. So, those who nabbed the criminals are being harassed. We have demanded that the district collector and SP be shifted out of Shivpuri and an FIR be registered," Scindia told reporters.
Nath claimed that the BJP was resorting to such tactics as it was sure of its drubbing in the upcoming bypolls to two Assembly seats.
The bypoll to the constituencies will be held on Saturday.
The Congress has fielded Mahendra Singh Yadav from Kolaras and Brijendra Singh Yadav from Mungaoli, while the BJP has fielded Baisahab Yadav from Mungaoli and Devendra Jain from Kolaras.
