MP seeks Rs 1,200 cr from Centre for integrated development of

The Madhya Pradesh Government has sent a proposal worth Rs 1,200 crore to the Centre for the integrated development of ravines.
"Under the integrated development of ravines in the state, the government has sent a proposal of Rs 1,200 crore to the Centre under which 70 per cent component will be given by the Union Government while the rest is going to be borne by the state," Farmers Welfare and Agriculture Development Minister, Gauri Shankar Bisen told the State Assembly.
The information was given during a discussion under rule 139 on the issue of reduction in agriculture land due to erosion of soil in Chambal-Gwalior region because of rivers which resulted in displacement of people from their villages.
Bisen informed that according to a research paper of Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Agriculture University, the ravines in the state had increased from 1943-44 to 1975-76 while it has reduced in 2013-14.
At present the total ravine area in the state is 1.28 lakh hectares which is spread in Morena, Bhind, Sheopur, Gwalior and Datia districts.
The Minister also informed that soil erosion and flow of water can be checked in ravine areas with the help of agriculture and plantation and a scheme in this regard was formulated by a committee headed by Commissioner, Chambal division.
