Two policemen, once posted in Raoti police station here, have been booked in a case of abetment of suicide involving an elderly tribal man.
Following a probe by Additional SP Prashant Choube, a case of corruption and abetment of suicide was registered against inspector R C Bajaiya and his subordinate ASI Prem Parmar yesterday, Raoti Police Station In-charge, O P Tantwar said today.
The case is three-years-old when Bajaiya was posted as In-charge of Raoti Police Station and Parmar as ASI.
The duo had demanded a bribe of Rs 1.70 lakh from the victim, Naggaji for saving him and his family in a case of suicide in 2013.
The old man had paid Rs 70,000 to Parmar by selling off his jewellery and domestic animals but the police officials continued to trouble him for the remaining amount, he said.
Unable to bear the pressure, Naggaji set himself afire and died.
After a complaint was filed by family members of Naggaji, a probe was conducted by the ASP which found both of them guilty.
Presently, Bajaiya is posted in Khargone district and Parmar in Barkheda police station in Ratlam district.
After registering a case against the two policemen, further investigations are underway, he added.
