In a letter, Chouhan asked SIT to immediately investigate the plaint filed by the former chief minister regarding examinations held for appointment of contractual school teacher-grade II, contractual school teacher-grade III and assistant grade-III by the state Professional Examination Board (MPPEB), an official release said.
Chouhan urged "immediate investigation into the misleading complaint filed by Singh wherein he also presented an unauthorised excel sheet in which, he has claimed, (the word) 'CM' has been written at 47 places," the letter said.
Top Congress leadership, including Digvijay Singh, former Union ministers Kamal Nath and Jyotiraditya Scindia, had launched a strident attack against Chouhan in connection with the scam alleging the original excel sheet, seized from computer of a top MPPEB official, was "fudged" to "strike out" his name.
They had said people including former minister Laxmikant Sharma are in jail as their names had figured in the excel sheet and the "same thing applies to Chouhan in view of the fact that his name was mentioned as 'CM' at 47 places in the original excel sheet."
Chouhan and BJP have already dismissed the allegations as "baseless, unfounded and height of wickedness."
Congress is demanding a CBI probe into the scam and resignation of Chouhan.
