"Each year we choose eminent personalities from arts, culture, sports, etc for our honorary DLitt. This year we have decided to give it to filmmaker Mrinal Sen and classical vocalist Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty," IIEST registrar Dr Biman Bandyopadhyay told PTI.
The institute's second convocation ceremony would be held at its Howrah campus, adjoining Kolkata, on Friday.
Sen, who turns 94 in May this year, is however unlikely to be personally present at the convocation due to age related issues.
In 2005, he was conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India's highest award in cinema.
