Muggy day in Delhi; light rainfall likely Thursday

People in Delhi experienced a muggy day on Wednesday with traces of rainfall in some parts of the city hardly providing any relief as maximum temperature settled at 34.5 degrees Celsius.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast cloudy skies with light rainfall and thunderstorm for Thursday.

The minimum temperature on Wednesday was recorded at 27.8 degrees Celsius, a notch above the season's average while the maximum settled at 34.5 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year, it said.

Humidity oscillated between 63 per cent and 87 per cent.

The Palam observatory recorded a high of 34.2 degrees Celsius and a low of 27.1 degrees Celsius while the maximum and minimum at Lodhi Road settled at 34.1 and 27 degrees Celsius respectively.

Lodhi Road received traces of rainfall on Wednesday.

The Ridge area recorded a high of 33.5 degrees Celsius and a low of 26.2 degrees Celsius with zero rainfall while Ayanagar recorded a maximum temperature of 33.8 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was recorded at 26.4 degrees Celsius with 0.2mm rainfall.

The weatherman has forecast generally cloudy sky and the possibility of light rain, thundershowers for Thursday. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to settle at 33 and 27 degrees Celsius on Thursday.

On Tuesday, the city recorded a high of 35.1 degrees Celsius, a notch above the normal, and a low of 27.4 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels oscillated between 63 and 88 per cent.

Delhi has recorded 199.2 mm rains from July 1 to July 30, which is around 1 per cent less than the 30-year average of 201.1 mm, officials said.

Overall, it has received 210.4 mm precipitation against the long-term average of 266.8 mm since June 1, when the monsoon season starts, a deficiency of around 21 per cent, IMD data showed.
