Chandru felt "ignored" in the party for quite some time and had expressed his displeasure in private.
He submitted his resignation letter to state BJP chief Pralhad Joshi.
"Except personal reasons, there is no other reason for my resignation", said Chandru, who has acted in a variety of roles in Kannada films and television serials.
Stating that there was a need to raise the voice of the state strongly with regard to its language, border and rich natural resources in the Lok Sabha, Chandru said "I am planning to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections from one of the constituencies in Bangalore.
