MDMK leader Vaiko today criticised the Tamil Nadu government for filing an affidavit in the Supreme court seeking CISF deployment for Mullaperiyar dam in Kerala in view of perceived threats by LTTE.
The Tamil Nadu government had on February 20 moved the apex court, seeking deployment of CISF for protection of Mullaperiyar dam in Kerala.
Vaiko recalled that the state government had taken a U-turn after protests from various quarters and said they did not agree with the view that the dam faces threat from LTTE and steps would be taken to change the affidavit.
He demanded to know how the government was going to rectify the 'mistake' of blaming the LTTE now.
Vaiko was speaking at a demonstration here to condemn the state government's stand.
He said Tamil nadu government's affidavit (seeking CISF deployment in the dam) was also based on the Intelligence Bureau report against LTTE, which was 'baseless'.
The Supreme Court had on July 3 sought Kerala's response
on the Tamil Nadu government's plea that security of the dam be handed over to CISF.
In its plea, the Tamil Nadu government had reportedly referred to an Intelligence Bureau report of September 2014 that claimed that the dam was vulnerable to terror threats.
The report referred to threat from "Islamist terror outfits, remnant cadres of LTTE and Naxals" and had advised precautionary measures.
