Two persons have been arrested for allegedly cheating a film producer of over Rs 1 crore on the pretext of giving his film a wider release, police said Saturday.
According to an official, accused Trilokchand Kothari and Rajesh Singh had entered into a contract worth Rs 1.2 crore with the maker of film "Ram ki Janmabhoomi" to release it in over 500 screens, and then allegedly reneged on the deal.
The victim filed a complaint at Amboli police station following which Kothari and Singh were arrested for cheating, forgery and intimidation from Mazgaon and Andheri, he said.
The film maker has told police that he was getting threat calls from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, he said.
The two have been remanded in police custody till April 22, he said.
