Mumbai techie kidnapped in Sudan, released

A 32-year-old techie Irfan Jaffrey, who was kidnapped three months back by gunmen at Darfur, has been released and is presently with Sudanese authorities, his family said here today.
"I have received a phone call yesterday at about 9:30 PM that my husband has been released. I also spoke to him. He says he is now in Sudan authorities' custody," Irfan's wife Nafisa Jaffrey (30), told PTI.
Official spokesperson of Ministry of External Affairs Syed Akbaruddin, has also tweeted, "Confirm that Irfan Jafferi was released & is with Sudanese authorities. Will be in Khartoum tomorrow. R Mission in touch with all."

Although the news has brought a great relief to the family, they will celebrate only after Irfan arrives home.
"I spoke to my husband only for few minutes. I am yet to come to terms with, that our ordeal has ended yesterday. However, till he returns home, the fear in mind will not fade away. We will celebrate only after he arrives home," she added.
Nafisa stays with her seven-year-old child in Dombivali in neighbouring Thane district.

Irfan, who has been working with Trigyn Technologies Ltd for last five years as an IT engineer, used to visit home twice in a year.

On March 11, a group of five armed gunmen allegedly abducted Irfan from outside a Turkish restaurant. Since then he has been kept hostage in a tribal area of Darfur.
The multi-national IT firm provides services of information and communications technology-related work at United Nations missions across the globe.
