Mumbai zone service tax collection jumps 26% as of end Feb

Net service tax collection from the Mumbai zone has gone up by a healthy 25.8 per cent to Rs 58,801 crore as of end February from Rs 46,753 crore a year ago, a senior official said today.
The Mumbai zone is hopeful of achieving the target of collecting Rs 69,600 crore for the entire fiscal as assigned to it by the Government, the Service Tax Department official said.
"The Mumbai zone has already collected service tax to the tune of Rs 58,801 crore as on February 29, up from Rs 46,753 crore in the year-ago period, which shows a growth of 25.8 per cent, Chief Commissioner, Service Tax and head of Mumbai zone, Piyusha Patnaik, told PTI here.
"We are hopeful of achieving the target of Rs 69,600 crore for the entire fiscal," he added.
Patnaik said in the last fiscal year the mop-up stood at Rs 56,455 crore.
"This was 33.76 per cent of the national collection of service tax during the fiscal which stood at Rs 1,67,228 crore," he added.
