The Mumbaikars finished in top two positions in the men's 55 km category. Mumbai-based Sameer Singh Gurjar came first in the 55 kms men's category, clocking six hours thirty four minutes and twenty eight seconds. He was awarded a prize of Rs 51,000.
Sandeepkumar Ishwar Singh, hailing from Surat, who clocked seven hours twenty minutes twenty eight seconds, stood second, winning a prize of Rs 21,000 and Abbas Ali Sheikh, belonging to Mumbai, who clocked seven hours fourty three minutes forty three seconds, stood third, winning a prize of Rs 11,000.
The winners of the 55 km trail race category are as follows:
Women's category: 1st Rank: Vandana Hiten Parikh from Vadodara (Time: 03.07.47), 2nd Rank: Shilpa Deo from Bangalore (Time: 3.18.47) and 3rd Rank: Smita Sharma from Mumbai (Time: 03.34.05).
Vandana Parikh won 1st prize of Rs 51,000. Shilpa Deo won 2nd prize of Rs 21,000 and Smita Sharma won 3rd prize of Rs 11,000.
While First winners in the 25-km category were given Rs 35,000 cash prize while Second and Third runners-up were awarded Rs 15,000 and Rs 7500 respectively.
Men's category: 1st Rank: Dhani Kumar from Kutch (Time: 2.25.48), 2nd Rank: Manoj Suresh fom Mumbai (Time: 2.31.35) and 3rd Rank: Zaheer Khan from Baroda (Time: 2.31.59).
Women's category: 1st Rank: Prgnya Mohan from Ahmedabad (Time: 03.07.47), 2nd Rank: Dr Sonya Bave from Baroda (Time: 3.18.47) and 3rd Rank: Dr Sushila Singh from Baroda (Time: 03.34.05).
This Vadodara Ultra Race was divided into two different categories, namely 55 km and 25 km. Both the races included a remarkable blend of mix hilly slopes, stiff descends and tough flats, that tested the runner's patience and speed at different types of terrain.
"We decided to organize this marathon which was promoted by the Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Ltd, a Gujarat government undertaking, to increase sensitivity towards the heritage sites and promoting eco-tourism. These heritage sites are a part of our rich culture and they have to be preserved," said Hiten Shah, Director, Uphill EMG.
