Harendra Nagar, president of Nagar Nigam Employees Union said all four zonal offices of the city were closed and the workers abstained from their duties.
He said the offices will remain closed till the time the culprits are not arrested.
Residents of Shalimar Garden and other neighbouring colonies had gathered at Mohan Nagar zonal office yesterday to the highlight the poor condition roads and were protesting in a peaceful manner.
During their protest, some GMC officials tried to disperse them by altercation, Jay Dixit, secretary of Shalimar Garden Sudhar Samiti alleged.
After the incident a scuffle took place between the residents and GMC staff.
"We had lodged an FIR against six persons in police station Sahibabad," Nagar said.
The matter is being probed and the culprits will be nabbed soon, ASP Aasheesh Srivastav said.
