Municipal Council prez held for accepting graft

A 39-year-old Municipal Council president of Wai in Maharashtra's Satara district and her husband were arrested by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 14,000.
Wai Municipal Council's president Pratibha Sudhir Shinde had demanded the bribe to release a payment of a contractor, ACB officials said.
Following a complaint by the contractor, a trap was laid this afternoon at Raviwar Peth in Wai. Sudhir was apprehended while accepting the bribe on Prathibha's behalf they said.
The Council had earlier released the bills to the tune of 1.40 lakh and Prathibha demanded 10 per cent of it to sanction the remaining amount of Rs 8 lakh, officials said.
Prathibha was also apprehended, they said, adding a probe was on.
