Shailendra, who died on 14 December 1966, aged 43, was known for his association with filmmaker Raj Kapoor and music composers Shankar-Jaikishan.
"My father had a 17-year-long career where he wrote more than 800 songs for 117 films and gave many hits. Yet, he was not given any recognition while he was alive. Even five decades after his death, no government has given him any honour or recognition," Dinesh told PTI.
Shailendra, who spent his early years from 1930 to 1946 in Mathura, will now have a road named after him in the city.
