Police today claimed to have solved the mystery surrounding the death of a head constable by arresting his daughter, her lover and another man for their alleged involvement in the incident.
According to district police chief Jasdeep Singh, Paramjit Kaur, a resident of Bal village, had lodged a police complaint on August 30 in connection with the death of her husband Palwinder Singh, a head constable in Punjab Armed Police (PAP).
In the complaint, the cause of the death was mentioned as cardiac arrest.
The investigating officer found some discrepancies in the complaint and brought the matter to the notice of his superiors.
Subsequently, a team under DSP Azad Devinder Singh was formed to look into the incident, said Singh.
During investigation, police went through the mobile call records of the deceased's daughter, Harmeet Kaur, a nursing student in a private institution, and found out that a number of calls were made to one Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Kartar Nagar in Batala, he added.
Describing Gurpreet as Harmeet's lover, Singh said the latter had called him to her house in the night of August 29.
However, her father found Gurpreet in her room and objected to his presence which led to a verbal altercation between the two, he added.
Gurpreet then called his friend Manjinder Singh, who was waiting outside the house, and the two allegedly killed the head constable with a sharp weapon, said Singh.
Police have arrested Harmeet, Gurpreet and Manjinder and a case under section 302, IPC has been registered against them, said the district police chief, adding that they were looking into the role of the deceased's wife in the incident.
