The Nagaland government has directed Deputy Commissioners of all the 11 districts to take 'necessary action' to ensure the security of persons belonging to the Karbi community, residing in their respective area.
The Additional Chief Secretary and Commissioner Nagaland Banuo Z Jamir in an official notification here said that the law and order situation prevailing in Karbi Anglong of Assam and the recovery of nine bodies under Dimapur district belonging to members of the Karbi tribe of Assam, triggered tension.
She said not to further escalate the situation, an urgent need was felt to create an environment promoting sense of security for all concerned and thereby diffuse tension, particularly among members of the Karbi community, residing in Nagaland.
The district administrations have also been asked to take stock of the situation and take necessary measures in co-ordination with the police and the public.
Informing that a large number of Karbis are involved in daily wage and other petty works in different parts of the state, she advised the administrations to set up communication with members of the Karbi community and involve the respective tribal hohos (tribal forum), civil societies and NGOs in creating the environment, conducive for maintaining normalcy.
The DCs may also identify the respective employers of the Karbis working in the district and sensitize them.
