Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel, will administer the oath.
Ashwani Kumar succeeds Nikhil Kumar, who left for Kerala to take up a gubernatorial assignment.
The governor designate was welcomed by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio along with his council of ministers, chief secretary Alemtemshi Jamir, director general of police B Kezo and a host of senior bureaucrats.
