Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has lauded the efforts of Bharti Enterprises Chairman Sunil Mittal in helping restore telecom services in the state that were badly hit by cyclone Hudhud.

"Your efforts to organise other service providers to help the government in restoration works are commendable," Naidu said in a letter to Mittal.

In the aftermath of the cyclone, Mittal had visited Visakhapatnam and attended a high-level meeting with Naidu on restoring telecom lines.

After the meeting, Naidu had pulled up telecom service providers for lack of connectivity even after two days of Cyclone Hudhud having devastated the coast and had accused them of being driven only by profit motive.

However, Mittal had given an assurance that the services would be restored by evening of October 18.

"I appreciate your travelling all the way to Visakhapatnam and taking the initiative in announcing special plans for customers in cyclone-hit districts in Andhra Pradesh," Naidu said.

The cyclone, accompanied by gusty winds at a speed of about 180 kmph and heavy rains, left a trail of destruction behind in Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts in coastal Andhra Pradesh.
