The fifth edition of the Nashik International Film Festival (NIFF) will start here from tomorrow, organisers have said.
"The festival, which is being organised in memory of the father of the Indian cinema Dadasaheb Phalke and also to mark the centenary year of Indian cinema, will be held between March 21 and 24," Mukesh Kaneri of Metro Foundation of India Organisation (MFIO) told reporters here last night.
The MFIO has organised the four-day event.
188 documentaries and short films, 10 feature films, 22 films made in Malegaon in the district, which is popularly known as "Mollywood", will be screened in the festival.
Besides these, five Australian, 20 French films and seven animation films will be screened during the four-day festival, Kaneri added.
A documentary made on the life of social activist and anti-corruption-crusader Anna Hazare and his work on water conservation and another film titled 'On the Footprints of Mahatma' will also be screened in the festival.
An art installation depicting 100 years of Indian cinema made by artist Sumeet Patil was unveiled here.
When asked, Kaneri said, "We are unable to announce the names of Life Time Achievement awardees this year as we are yet to receive the grant of Rs 10 lakh from the state government for the festival. In fact, we have not received the grant from the government since the last three years."
"Veteran actor Manoj Kumar and famous character actress Kamini Kaushal, who were given the Lifetime Achievement Award in the 4th edition of NIFF, are yet to receive the award amount of Rs one lakh each due to this," he added.
