National Crisis Management Committee reviews Chennai flood

The National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) today reviewed the flood situation in Tamil Nadu and explored the possibility of dropping ready-to-eat food items, potable water and milk to the affected people.
The NCMC, headed by Cabinet Secretary P K Sinha, took stock of the flood situation in Chennai and its neighbouring districts besides Puducherry with Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu K Gnanadesikan and top officials of central ministries and departments.
The Chief Secretary informed the NCMC through video conferencing about the latest situation and ongoing relief and rescue works in the state.
The requirement of ready-to-eat food items, potable water and milk was also reviewed, an official statement said.
The status of deployment of NDRF teams, Army columns, Air Force helicopters and boats provided by the Indian Navy, Coast Guard and NDRF was discussed in the meeting.
The meeting was attended by Secretaries from various key ministries and nodal agencies, concerned with the emergency response such as Ministry of Home Affairs, National Disaster Management Authority, Ministries of Defence, Health and Family Welfare, Power, Urban Development, Railways, Civil Aviation, Telecommunication, Information and Broadcasting, India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The Cabinet Secretary asked the Ministries concerned to provide necessary assistance in a coordinated manner to the state government, ensuring that the rescue and evacuation of the people is their top priority, the release said.
