Journalists in Nagaland along the Directorate of Information and Public Relations on Friday came together in observing the National Press Day and held a panel discussion on the theme 'Journalism Ethics and Challenges in Digital Era'.
Participating in the discussion the members expressed concern that with improved technology for creating and distribution of media content and social media providing easy platform at a global scale, fake news has become prevalent raising serious concern on the authenticity of the news and it's credibility.
Director of Information and Public Relations Limawati Ao stressed on the importance and impact of digitalization.
Editor of Morung Express, Dr Moalemba mentioned the challenges faced by the media and said that people preferably use social media as a medium of communication.
He mentioned about the role and responsibility of media in this digital age saying that objectivity and impartiality are the hallmark of communication as fake news is increasing in this digital age.
He also asked the media agencies to verify the news items before being published.
"Every profession has its own ethics" said Project Coordinator, NSLSA, Tongpang L Jamir while discussing on the topic 'Journalism Ethics and Challenges in Digital Era'.
Officer-in-Charge of Cyber Cell, Police Headquarters, Michael Yhome cautioned the participants to refrain from sending fake news or rumours without checking its credibility.
