Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today dedicated a business park complex here, the only of it kind in eastern India, to the people of Odisha.
"I hope that this park will facilitate trade and promote enterprise as well as serve as a platform for promoting arts, crafts and culture in northern Odisha," he said.
Stating that Odisha's enterprise has a glorious past, Patnaik said the business park is an effort in reviving it. The project is connected amongst the most successful projects in the country under Industrial Infrastructure Upgradation Scheme (IIUS) scheme of the Central government.
The project is also a very successful model of Public Private Partnership wherein the public and private partners have come forward to build upon their key strengths, he said.
Though considered a poor and backward state about two decades ago, now Odisha is seen amongst the leading states of the country in industrial growth and development, Patnaik said.
In fact in 2013, the Reserve Bank of India formally announced Odisha to be the number one state in attracting industrial investments in the country, Patnaik pointed out, adding that during the short period the core sectors which including power, aluminium, steel and port, have witnessed growth ranging from 350 per cent to 1,000 per cent.
"The state has also registered a growth of about 700 per cent in software exports during this period. Today, Odisha accounts for 10 per cent of the steel and more than 50 per cent of aluminium produced in the country," he said.
"This growth has been achieved alongside a significant reduction in poverty. Odisha is credited with the highest poverty reduction of more than 20 per cent between 2005 and 2011," the CM said.
