A Naxal was killed in an encounter with a team of C-60 commandos at Mauza Humdi forest in Gadchiroli district yesterday evening, police said.
The incident took place between 4:45pm to 6:15pm when the C-60 commandos, a specialised unit of the Gadchiroli police, were conducting combing operations in the area.
Police said that a group of Naxals opened fire on the commando team.
"The Naxal was killed in retaliatory firing. Other ultras fled leaving behind his body. A rifle and some Maoist literature was found from the spot. The process of identifying the Naxal is on," a police official said.
