National Conference today issued a gag order to party leaders, asking them to desist from speaking to the media over policy issues, including the post- assembly poll scenario.
NC President Farooq Abdullah and Working President Omar Abdullah, while issuing a statement in this regard here, authorised a few senior leaders to speak on behalf of the party.
"Farooq and Omar have authorised NC general secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar, provincial presidents for Jammu and Kashmir Devender Singh Rana and Nasir Aslam Wani respectively and spokesperson Junaid Azim Mattu to speak on behalf of the party on policy issues including the post-assembly polls policy and stands of the party," it said.
They said the statements made by the other party leaders should be taken as their personal opinions.
"Statements made by these authorised office bearers alone will represent official statements from the party. Statements made by all other respected party leaders, including legislators-elect of the party should be taken to be made in their respective personal capacities," it said.
The NC said the party general secretary would coordinate briefings among these office bearers.
"NC has made its stand known. All party leaders and legislators have contributed their valuable views and these views have converged towards formulating stands taken by the party leadership and the core group on various issues. Those authorised to speak for the party will be available to the media... To elaborate on the party policy," it said.
