A senior leader of Jammu and Kashmir's ruling National Conference today demanded a probe by sitting judge of High Court into the alleged question paper scam in the Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE).
"I, on behalf of NC, appeal to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to hold judicial probe by sitting judge of High Court to unravel the truth behind the working of BOPEE (with regard to alleged question paper scam in J&K) from its inception particular from 2003 onwards," Jammu provincial president of NC, Devender Rana told reporters here.
"It should also hold probe into who hushed up case in 2003-04," he said, adding truth must come out in public about who were people benifited from the scam.
To a question on impending action against officers involved in paper leak scam, Rana said,"the chief minister has said that the guilty would get exemplary punishment."
Rana, however, said that PDP has no moral authority to give sermons on corruption, as it has "become a hub of the corrupt and dishonest retired officials, who have vigilance cases pending against them."
The former chairman of the JK Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) Mushtaq Ahmad Peer was arrested on Sunday in Srinagar in connection with the alleged question paper scam.
Peer is the prime suspect in the alleged scam related to the sale of question papers for Common Entrance Test (CET) 2012, conducted by the BOPEE, when he was the chairman.
Investigations showed the question papers were sold for as much as Rs 20 lakh per candidate. Some 12 students had managed admissions in various professional colleges of the state after purchasing the question papers last year.
The crime branch began investigating the case after some of the toppers in the CET 2012 flunked internal tests in the professional courses conducted by the colleges early this year.
The investigating agency has widened the scope of the investigations to include the CET conducted in 2010 and 2011 also.
