An NCP corporator of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) was arrested today for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a builder, according to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
Sunia Satpute (52), a corporator from Mumbra township, had earlier lodged a complaint against the builder with the civic body regarding construction work.
"The corporator allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 from the builder to drop her complaint. The amount was later brought down to Rs 45,000 after negotiations," an ACB release said.
On the complaint of the builder, the ACB laid a rap and arrested Satpute while she was accepting the first instalment of Rs 20,000 from the complainant, it said.
She has been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
