National Commission for Protection of Child Rights today sought a report from the Bahuguna-government on exact number of children missing in the recent Uttarakhand calamity and asked it identify those who were orphaned in the tragedy.
"We have asked the state government to give a final data on the number of children missing after the tragedy and also to identify those who were orphaned," NCPCR chairperson Kushal Singh told reporters here after holding a meeting with senior state government officials.
However, she said a NCPCR team was in the city not to review anything but to express solidarity with the people of the state who have suffered massive loss to life and property in the tragedy.
She said the data of missing children was being collected and the state government as of now is not in a position to give an exact figure about the number of children missing after the calamity.
A senior official of the Ministry of Women and Child Welfare accompanying her said, there will be no dearth of funds from the Centre for rebuilding the lives of children orphaned in the calamity.
