The Nagaland Contractors' and Suppliers' Union (NCSU) has demanded handing over of works under Border Road Task Force (BRTF) jurisdiction to the Public Works Department (National Highways) of the state government.
In a representation submitted to the chief minister yesterday, NCSU President Pele Khezhie and General Secretary John Kath alleged that of late the BRTF had not been performing well as expected while Border Road Organisation (BRO) had not been able to maintain the national highway in Nagaland particularly NH-29, also known as Dimapur to Imphal road.
NCSU also alleged that the technical layout of the road surfaces by BRO was not suitable to hilly terrain in the state as the roads were tapered in the middle portion inviting water logging.
Alleging poor maintenance of NH-29 which passed through the heart of Kohima, NCSU alleged that local contractors and NPWD (R&B) were capable and equipped with the latest technology to take up the task.
