NCW meet on Nov 20 to finalise recommendations on legalising

National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Lalitha Kumaramangalam, who had recently stirred up a controversy by proposing legalisation of sex work, today said that it was her personal opinion and that the recommendations of the Commission were yet to be finalised.
"It is my personal view that sex trade should be legalised so that the affected women get social benefits especially in regard to education, health and finance. But then the Commission's final recommendations are still being finalised," she said, addressing the media at the Indian Women's Press Corps (IWPC) here.
"There is a thin line between legalisation and decriminalisation of sex trade," she said, adding that a meeting to finalise the recommendations will take place on November 20.

Asked about the issue of 'Love Jihad' being raised by a section within BJP, Kumaramangalam said the media was to some extent responsible for blowing the issue out of proportion.
Had the media remained silent over the issue it would have been ignored, she added.
