The Central Park in Connaught Place, which boasts of the highest monumental flagpole in the national capital, is set to get an image makeover soon with New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) planning to turn it into a popular tourist spot.
The park is set to get a musical fountain, which would also act as a water screen for 3D laser shows. Besides installation of various sculptures, the existing amphitheatre will be beautified with all-season floral landscaping and will be made more secure with disaster management arrangements.
"With having one of the largest national flags in the country, the area becomes an important tourist destination. It is important that the park be developed and beautified at the world class level.
"The park shall be upgraded with installation of dancing and musical fountain with laser show, modern horticulture and landscaping works and technical aspects in context of security and disaster management incorporating norms in upgradation of park," NDMC Chairman Jalaj Srivastava said.
The civic body has recently floated Expression of Interest (EOI) inviting consultants to bid for the project.
"While the 3D shows will be done by employing effects of timed sound waves and timed lights (including laser) involving programmed computerised control systems, we are also considering installing electronic informatory boards," Srivastava said.
Delhi's highest flagpole was installed in Central Park last year and considering the footfall the civic agency had earlier sought permission from Delhi Urban Arts Commission to install a "I love Delhi" structure near the flagpole. However, later it decided to renovate the whole park.
"It is also proposed to restrict the entry of general public to the area surrounding the national flag and the same shall be developed with all season colourful plantations to enhance the splendid glory of the flag amongst the evergreen development," said Srivastava.
The Central Park located in the heart of Central Delhi, is one of the important attractions in Connaught Place, which is one of the most expensive commercial hubs.
