A team of 40 personnel were sent off from the forces' camp here by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Inspector General Sandeep R Rathore.
Nine NDRF men, six ITBP personnel and five IAF crew were killed in a chopper crash in the Kedarnath valley on June 25, 2013, while conducting relief operations to rescue pilgrims, tourists and locals in the disaster-struck state.
"The expedition is aimed to pay tribute to the fallen soldiers and others who were killed during the tragedy that struck the state in 2013. The contingent willl travel by road and reach Kedarnath valley on June 24," a senior official said.
