NDRF begins expedition to mark 2nd anniv of Kedarnath tragedy

An NDRF expedition was flagged off today for the Kedarnath valley in Uttarakhand as part of the forces' tribute to their collegaues who were killed while conducting rescue operations there during the floods disaster in 2013.
A team of 40 personnel were sent off from the forces' camp here by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Inspector General Sandeep R Rathore.
Nine NDRF men, six ITBP personnel and five IAF crew were killed in a chopper crash in the Kedarnath valley on June 25, 2013, while conducting relief operations to rescue pilgrims, tourists and locals in the disaster-struck state.
"The expedition is aimed to pay tribute to the fallen soldiers and others who were killed during the tragedy that struck the state in 2013. The contingent willl travel by road and reach Kedarnath valley on June 24," a senior official said.
An official statement said NDRF personnel had rescued 9,647 people from the valley during this operation.
