A 14-member team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) will travel to China and Malaysia later this month to participate in the ASEAN Regional Forum disaster relief exercise-2015.
India will be among 27 countries to take part in this biennial event organised to test civil-military coordination efforts, NDRF Director General O P Singh said while briefing about the event here.
He also said that the exercise will create synergy and synchronise efforts towards supporting effective implementation of ASEAN Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response (AADMR) which is the common platform for disaster management of the region.
The exercise will be organised from May 24-28 in the state of Kedah and Perlis in Malaysia and China.
The NDRF squad will participate in field training exercises on various simulated disaster scenarios like landslides and collapsed structures, chemical leakage, mass evacuation, maritime scenarios with ASEAN member states like Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
Singh said the team will share its theoretical and practical experiences while rendering the Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations in India and abroad.
"Participation in such an international event will help NDRF in coordinating multi-national disaster rescue operations and upgrading India's capabilities in future endeavours," the DG said. NDRF personnel recently conducted relief and rescue operations in quake-hit Nepal.
The team will be led by a Deputy Inspector General rank officer.
