Need 20 days to proceed with building demolition: Govt to HC

The Tamil Nadu government today informed the Madras High Court that it requires 20 days to proceed with the demolition of the second block of an under- construction multi-storey building at Moulivakkam near here, which had collapsed two years ago.
The matter relates to the collapse of the building on June 28, 2014 in which 61 persons died and several were injured.
Pursuant to the directions of the Supreme Court, the building is now sought to be demolished by the government by inviting tenders and the process started on June 28.
When a PIL filed by DMK Treasurer M K Stalin seeking a CBI probe into the collapse came up for hearing, the First Bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice R Mahadeven recorded the government's submission and posted the matter for September 16.

The Supreme Court had in May given its approval for the demolition of the second structure of the building.
