"There is a need to bring about an attitudinal change in society towards a girl child through legislative, preventive, advocacy and programmatic inputs," Tirath, the Union Minister for Women and Child Development, said today.
She was speaking at a function here to observe National Girl Child Day.
Launching a multi-sectoral nutrition programme (MSNP) and national resource platform (NRP) on the occasion, Tirath also stressed on the need for all private institutions to provide child care leave to their women employees.
MSNP will be implemented as a special intervention in 200 high-burden districts across 19 states, beginning with 100 districts in the current fiscal, she added.
Nutrition resource platform (NRP), she said, aims to collect, collate and make available to various stakeholders resources on nutrition and child development.
It will also be an interactive knowledge resource base which would facilitate real time interaction, exchange of ideas and discussions.
