As many as 15 lakh saplings would be planted in selected areas in Himachal Pradesh to increase green cover, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said today.
The chief minister, who led a sapling plantation drive at Churwadhar in Rajgarh area of Sirmour district today, said afforestation should be made a people's movement.
As many as 15 lakh saplings would be planted in 596 selected places in the state with active participation of the people, he said, adding that 67 per cent area of the state was already covered with forests but more was needed to increase the greenery.
