Nepal and India today began a two-day meeting to discuss border and bilateral security- related issues and come up with measures to curb anti-social activities along the porous border.
The meeting, being held in the scenic city of Pokhara will also discuss strengthening border management, including a number of issues related to smuggling of narcotics, arms and illegal crossings and strengthening of border outposts and others, joint-secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Laxmi Prasad Dhakal.
The 15-member Indian side to the talks is led by Hitesh Kumar S Makwana, joint secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs. Both sides comprise senior security officials, including those deployed in the respective bordering areas.
A 16-member team led by Dhakal is attending the meeting from the Nepali side.
The meeting is expected to come up with measures to curb anti-social activities along the Nepal-India border, Himalayan Times reported.
The open border between Nepal and India has given rise to unchecked movement of anti-social elements who engaged in trafficking of drugs and women.
The meeting comes days after Nepal and India agreed to jointly monitor border pillars from March 11 as part of efforts to improve condition of the area.
