Nepal is supporting 500 urban refugees, including nearly 200 Pakistani nationals, a UN body has said.
The country has also been successful in the resettlement of over 90,000 Bhutanese refugees over the past six years at the initiative of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNCHR).
The UNHCR Nepal stated this during a press conference to mark the International Refugees Day, June 20.
The urban refugees include 196 from Pakistan, 89 from Mynmar, 32 from Somalia and remaining from other eight countries, according to UNHCR Nepal office.
The Pakistani refugees are religious minorities within the Muslim community, who feel insecure in their own home land, a senior official at UNHCR Nepal said.
The UNHCR is providing free medical services, allowances to the refugees and education to their children.
Under the resettlement programme, the UNHCR has already resettled some 90,337 refugees including 76,328 in USA.
Australia has received 5,154 refugees and Canada has received 5,894 refugees.
Other refugee recipient countries include UK, New Zealand, Norway and Denmark.
There are some 20,000 Tibetan refugees having settled in Nepal since 1950s.
"UNCHR facilitates the safe transit of Tibetan new arrivals through Nepal to India, where they visit to meet their spiritual Guru the Dalai Lama, and ensures that their protection and material needs are addressed while in Nepal," reads a statement issued by UNCHR Nepal.
